[NBS] The Secret to Getting More Value Out Of Your Content


Hey Reader,

This week I want to share with you the secret to getting more value out of your content.

The reason is because most experts who start building a lifestyle business realize they need to create some sort of audience online.

And the simplest (and cheapest) way to do so is by creating –and posting!– valuable content on platforms like LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube, etc…

At first it’s all new and exciting.

But as time goes on and the novelty wears off, the reality of this digital hamster wheel takes hold.

You learn how difficult it is to come up with things to say and, dare-I-say, keep your audience entertained / engaged.

This is where you start skipping a day here and there… Which turn into a few days straight… Into weeks…

And before you know it you’ve dropped the towel and restarting is much harder than when you didn’t know how hard it’d be… (ask me how I know… 🙈 )

Anyway…

There is one simple way to never run out of steam while staying on topic: repurposing your content.

And in this post I’ll share with you 5 ways (and a bonus one) in which you can give new life to your old content.

5 Proven Ways For Getting More Value Out Of Your Content:

  1. Repost it
  2. Break it down and go deeper into each point.
  3. Distill it into the key points and make it a listicle.
  4. Turn it into a video or a podcast.
  5. Expand it into a longer form asset.

So… if this sounds like something you’d be interested in doing, keep on reading.

Way #1: Repost It

The easiest and simplest thing you can do with a previously successful piece of content is to copy the entire thing and just repost it as is.

Seriously.

“But what if someone sees it again?”

The truth is nobody remembers your content as well as you remember your content. Also, not just because you posted it before does it mean all of your followers saw it. Or were paying attention to it anyway.

And on top of it all, you likely have a few people who were not following you the last time you posted it so to them, it’s a brand new post.

At the end of the day it’s your post and you get to use it as often as you wish.

Way #2: Go Deeper

If reposting as is is not your thing, you can always break your original piece of content down into smaller chunks and go deeper into each of them.

For example, take this newsletter. If I wanted to reuse it somehow and didn’t feel like resending or reposting it as is, I could grab a single one of these 5 points and go deeper into it.

Perhaps share more tactical tips about each one, give more examples, etc.

This is something I often do when a piece of content generates questions from readers asking for more details or clarification.

Way #3: Summarize It

This is the opposite of #2.

Let’s say you recorded a great YouTube video or an in-depth podcast episode. Well, you can go back to your script and grab the most important points and make a summary of it so it works best in other platforms.

For example, turn it into a thread on X or into a short listicle post on LinkedIn. And then link to the original long form piece of content.

Pro tip: You can also do this with other creators’ long form content. But of course, make sure to give credit and link to the original source.

Way #4: Transform It

In this case you grab one type of content and transform it into a different type so it appeals to a different person in your audience.

For example, transcribe your podcast episode and publish it as an article. Or grab your long form article and use a text-to-speech tool to turn it into a podcast.

You can also grab your short LinkedIn post or Tweet, generate an image and post it as a caption on instagram. Or even simpler, take a screenshot and post the screenshot as an image on Instagram.

Again, this might look lazy from the outside (and maybe it is) but it’s also helping you get your message to a different segment of your audience without having to redo it for them.

Way #5: Expand It

Finally, when you see some of your content get traction amongst your audience –specially when it generates questions– you should think about expanding it.

You can expand it into a book, a workshop, or an entire course (*shameless plug: it’s exactly what I did with Guesting for Profit).

And why should you do it this way instead of just writing the book or creating the course?

Because you have not yet validated it! You don’t know whether your audience will want it or not. You might be sure they need it but a need on its own is never enough to justify the time and effort required to make a book or course worthwhile.

Bonus: Curate It

Another way to leverage your existing content is to curate it into different lists or bundles.

This is common on X where several creators who are used to posting threads will then post a “thread of threads” to which they add every new thread they create.

You can also do the same on your own blog (I use categories and tags) or on platforms like Medium where you can use lists.

But the key is then to direct your audience to the corresponding curated list.

For example, when someone downloads a lead magnet, you can then direct them to a curated list of other pieces of content related to that lead magnet.

And that’s it! Couldn't be simpler.
